A Learning Moment... Hopefully

A couple weeks back, we went out to dinner at Aztecas, (Thanks to a Living Social sweet deal) and then went to Target afterwards. Keenan loves to grab anything he thinks "we buy mom" and this time he grabbed a Christmas card, a motorcycle ornament, and a Wii game on clearance. We don't even have a Wii. After we told him he couldn't get them, and him getting mad, he put them in the bottom of Damon's stroller, unknown to us. Well a couple days later when we went to get his stroller out, Juan found those little items in the stroller. So Keenan got a talking to in the car, and then came home and had to go sit in his room.
Fast forward to last night, I took Keenan back to Target to take his items back that he stole. I don't think he did it intentionally and didn't know what stealing was, but he sure does now! While we were waiting in line, I told him that he was going to get in trouble, he says, "ahh...stop talking me." Thats what he tells me also at home when he doesn't want to do something. So when we get up to the front where you return things, I asked the lady if she could get her mean face on. She did a good job and made him feel bad I think. When she asked him why he took them, all he did was nod his face. I think he only understood that he took them, not why. We are still pretty far behind on a lot of meanings on things. Were working on it. It was so cute though because when she was talking to him and telling him you don't take things that aren't his, he was just looking at her and trying really hard not to have the tears well up in his eyes. I hope this was a good teaching moment for him and hopefully he remembers how he felt for the future.
