The rose festival is a big thing around here in Portland. We missed all the other festivities, or decided not to go to them actually. It's like another fair and we don't need to attend more then one this year. But we did go downtown for the parade and what better to do then on a Saturday and free besides our $8 parking! We are so glad we went! The kids loved it and loved all the action.
We were right by an announcing booth which was great and so they had chalk to play horse poop BINGO. So we played 4 spaces for a $1. Of course no horse pooped on anything but it was still fun!
We arrived at about 9:30, met up with our friends, and the parade started at 10 am but didn't meet us until about 11.
There were lots of fun and big floats. Nothing like Basin City Parade. Coming from a super small town all were used to seeing is tractors, cherry shakers, and kids on bikes or motorcycles.
This High School marching band was from Tawaain.
It was neat to see such the difference!
The Grand Marshall, packy the elephant. Packy lives at the Zoo here.
It was so entertaining seeing all the marching bands from different school from all over and all the different areas of sister cities for Portland. There is no doubt we love living close to the city!
